Indochina Deluxe Travel
Do you run group departures?
No. Every journey is private for one party, from a single traveller upward. We do not combine separate bookings into one vehicle or one guide.
Why are prices shown as on request?
Because the honest number depends on dates, hotel level and party size, and the spread is wide. We send a full quote with the draft itinerary, broken down so it can be compared.
Can we combine two of your itineraries?
Yes. The Hue and Hoi An week and the Angkor week join naturally, and the Laos journey can follow either. Tell us which ones and how many days you have.
Are the guides historians?
Some are, by training. What we look for is a guide whose daily work is one site or one period, so that the explanation goes past dates into how the place was built and used.

Tours
Can a single traveller book these journeys?
Yes. The price per person is higher because the vehicle and guide are not shared, but every itinerary runs for one person as readily as for six.
What is the largest party you take?
One private party, typically up to eight people in one vehicle. Larger families can be handled with two vehicles and two guides; tell us the numbers early.
Do the itineraries run all year?
They can, but not equally well. Central Vietnam floods in October and November, and Cambodia is at its hottest from March to May. Each tour page says which months we would avoid.
Can we start on any date?
Yes, subject to hotel and flight availability. For the December to February season, booking several months ahead gives the widest choice of hotels.

UNESCO Indochina 15 days
Can we start in Luang Prabang and end in Hanoi?
Yes. The route works in either direction. Starting in Laos means a gentler first week and ending with the busier Vietnamese cities.
Is Ha Long Bay worth the two days?
For most first-time visitors, yes. If you have seen it, or prefer caves to seascapes, we replace it with two nights at Phong Nha, which adds a road day.
How much walking is involved?
Four to six kilometres on site days, much of it on uneven stone. Angkor has the steepest stairs; most can be skipped without missing the main reliefs.
Which visas do we need?
Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos each have their own visa rules, which differ by nationality and change often. Check the official government portals for your passport before you book flights.

Hue, Hoi An and My Son 7 days
Can we do this week in reverse, from Da Nang to Hue?
Yes. Flights into Da Nang are more frequent, so starting there is often easier. The site order stays the same in spirit: My Son early, Hue citadel early.
Is My Son worth a 05:15 start?
We think so, from April to September especially, when the valley is hot by 09:00. In the cooler months a 07:00 departure loses less, and we can move it.
Is the Hai Van Pass always included?
Only if the weather is clear enough to see anything. Otherwise we take the tunnel and save the time for Hoi An.
Can we add Phong Nha?
Yes, as two extra nights before Hue. Phong Nha is a natural listing, so it changes the character of the trip; it suits travellers who want caves alongside the monuments.

Angkor and Sambor Prei Kuk 6 days
Do we really need five nights for Angkor?
For the three famous temples, no. For the story from Roluos to the Bayon, plus Sambor Prei Kuk, yes. Four nights works if you drop the Sambor Prei Kuk day.
Is sunrise at Angkor Wat included?
If you want it. We suggest Srah Srang for sunrise and Angkor Wat at about 08:00, but many travellers want the classic view once, and we plan around that.
Can children come?
Yes, and children under 12 enter Angkor free with a passport. The early starts and the heat are the harder part; we shorten the days for families.
Could we add Koh Ker or Preah Vihear?
Koh Ker, inscribed in 2023, can replace or follow Sambor Prei Kuk as a long day. Preah Vihear lies on the border with Thailand; we include it only after checking the current travel advisories.

Laos heritage 8 days
Is the Plain of Jars safe given the unexploded ordnance?
The jar sites open to visitors have been cleared, and UNESCO notes the clearance of the components. Stay on marked paths, follow the white-and-red markers, and do not pick anything up. Your guide knows the ground.
Can we take the train?
The train between Vientiane and Luang Prabang covers 238 kilometres in roughly two hours. It is useful if you start in Vientiane; tickets go on sale three days ahead through the official app or at stations.
Should we give alms ourselves?
Only if it means something to you and you follow the customs. Many visitors watch instead. If you take part, buy sticky rice at the morning market, not from the vendors on the main road.
When is the Vat Phou festival?
Around the full moon of February. It draws large crowds of pilgrims, which makes it a remarkable time to see the temple in use and a poor time to see it quietly.

Prices
Why are your quotes higher than some others for the same route?
Usually because of guides and timing. We book a specialist where a site has one, and plan site visits for the quiet hours, which lengthens the working day of the guide and driver. The line-by-line quote shows where the difference sits.
Do you charge for the draft itinerary?
No. The draft and the quote are free, and so are reasonable revisions before you confirm.
Can we pay in a currency other than USD?
Quotes are in USD. The payment page explains the methods we accept and the fees each one carries.
Will the price change after we confirm?
The booking terms set out when a confirmed price can change. Changes you ask for after confirming are quoted separately, in writing, before we make them.
Read in full: Prices.
How to book
How far ahead should we book?
For December to February, book several months ahead for the widest hotel choice. Outside that season, less notice usually works.
Can we talk through the plan rather than write?
We work by email so every change is recorded. If something is hard to put in writing, describe it as fully as you can and we answer each point in our reply.
What happens if a flight is cancelled during the trip?
We rebook the ground arrangements around the new flight. Costs caused by the airline are usually claimable from the airline or your insurer; we provide the paperwork.
Can we book only part of a journey?
Yes. A single country or a single site with a specialist guide is fine, as long as the arrangement is private.
Read in full: How to book.
Destinations
Why are there only four destination pages?
Because these are the places our journeys stay in. Other sites, such as Trang An or Sambor Prei Kuk, are covered in the heritage table and the tour pages.
Can we visit all four in ten days?
Technically, yes; usefully, no. Ten days across three countries leaves one full day at each. We suggest fourteen at least, or choosing two.
Which is the quietest?
Luang Prabang, as a town. As a site, My Son and the outer Angkor temples at opening time.

Hue
Is the Hue citadel worth it if so much was destroyed?
With a guide who can describe the plan, yes. Without one, many visitors find it a large park with a few buildings. The guide is the difference.
Which tomb should we see if we only have time for one?
Minh Mang’s, for the classic layout. If you like the unexpected, Khai Dinh’s.
Can we visit the Imperial City at night?
Evening openings and events are held on some dates. We check what runs during your stay and book it if it does.
Is Hue hot?
From May to August, very. Plan site visits for early morning and late afternoon and rest at midday.

Hoi An and My Son
Is the Hoi An old-town ticket checked?
At the entrances to the ticketed buildings, yes, and sometimes at the edges of the old town. Keep it with you; it covers entry to five sites.
How long do we need at My Son?
Two to three hours on site with a guide. With the drive, a morning.
Are the lantern evenings worth seeing?
Once, perhaps. They are busy. We would rather you saw the old town at 07:00 and spent the evening at dinner away from the river.
Can we combine Hoi An with a beach?
Yes. Beach hotels are a short drive from the old town. Stay in town for the heritage nights and move to the beach at the end.
Read in full: Hoi An and My Son.
Angkor
Is the three-day pass enough?
For most visitors, yes. If you plan four temple days, the seven-day pass costs only a little more.
Are drones allowed at Angkor?
Not without written permission from the APSARA National Authority, which manages the park.
What should we wear?
Cover shoulders and knees. Shorts, tank tops and skirts above the knee are considered disrespectful under the visitor code of conduct, and the upper levels of some temples enforce it.
Is sunrise at Angkor Wat worth it?
It is the classic view of Angkor and the busiest hour at the temple. Srah Srang at sunrise and Angkor Wat at about 08:00 is our suggestion.
Read in full: Angkor.
Luang Prabang
Should we join the alms round?
Watching quietly from across the street is fine and is what most visitors do. If you give, buy rice at the morning market, dress modestly, and stay silent.
Is the Royal Palace Museum open every day?
It closes at lunchtime and one day a week. We check the current closing day before your visit.
Can we visit monasteries in the afternoon?
Yes. Many are open through the day, and late afternoon is often quieter than mid-morning.
Is three nights too many?
Not if you like slow places. If you prefer a busier pace, two nights covers the main sites.

UNESCO heritage sites
How many World Heritage sites are there in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos?
Seventeen properties in total: nine in Vietnam, five in Cambodia and four in Laos, with Phong Nha-Ke Bang and Hin Nam No counted in both Vietnam and Laos because it crosses the border.
Which was inscribed first?
Angkor, in 1992. Hue followed in 1993 and Ha Long Bay in 1994.
Where do the inscription years come from?
From the country pages of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, read on 3 October 2026. Extensions are shown after the original year.
Are the ticket prices current?
They were current in the sources we read on 3 October 2026, some of which are agency pages rather than the site managers. Check before you travel.

Temple etiquette
Can I wear shorts at Angkor?
The visitor code of conduct treats shorts and skirts above the knee as disrespectful, and you may be refused access to the upper levels. Long, light trousers are the practical answer.
Do I need to take my shoes off at Vietnamese pagodas?
In some halls, yes. Where you see shoes left at a door, add yours to them.
Is it rude to watch the alms round in Luang Prabang?
Watching quietly from across the street is fine. Following the monks, using flash or blocking their way is not.
Can women hand something to a monk?
Traditionally a woman does not hand an object directly to a monk; it is placed on a cloth or passed through a man. In a temple setting, ask your guide.
